Network Design (Prep for Network+ Certification)

Network design involves the creation of a computer network through the interconnectedness of various devices. The Atlantis University CIT 280 course prepares students to achieve these objective in the classroom as preparation for the Network+ Certification exam. The type of positions in the workforce that is responsible for the network design are Information Technology Administrators, system engineers, network designers, network analysts, and Help desk technicians. Network Topology Defined

According to www.Techopedia.com, “Network topology refers to the physical or logical layout of a network. It defines the way different nodes are placed and interconnected with each other. Alternately, network topology may describe how the data is transferred between these nodes.” For the layperson, nodes are synonymous with electronic devices such as modems, routers, desktop computers, laptop computers, servers, and mobile devices, i.e., any electronic device connected to a computer network.

Techopedia.com further explains the existence of two types of computer network typologies described as “physical topology,” composed of the material components and hardware connections, and “logical topology,” the programmed flow of immaterial information between the nodes of the “physical topology.” To use the human anatomy as an analogy, a computer network’s physical topology is synonymous with the human brain and the physical nervous system while the logical topology as synonymous with the signals sent throughout the human nervous system causing the body to operate various functions it is designed to accomplish.

Since budgeting and reducing risk while remaining competitive in any industry, information technology personnel understand that network design is a resource driven scenario. There is a different typology for a different amount of resources. When to use a particular typology can be determined after the criteria is established according to the aforementioned concepts.

It is not uncommon for certain startups to have their typology limited in direct proportion to the available allotment of equity within the new business. But, it is important for network operations personnel to align both physical and logical topologies to an organization’s existing information framework.
